The Reason We're Running:
The Amazing Maasai Ultra is a fundraising event to raise scholarship funds to sponsor Maasai school girls through secondary schooling (US$400 per year/girl student x 4 years). All race proceeds and donations go to support the girls through The Amazing Maasai Girls Project, a US- registered non-profit organization.
How It All Began:
In 2010, "Ultra-Marathoners" Sarah and Molly met the "Maasai Warriors" Francis and Paul, all contestants on the television show The Amazing Race China Rush and together they hatched a plan: to found the first ultra-distance running race in Maasai country, Kenya, thus putting their shared passion for running to positive ends! In support of the girls' education initiative that Francis works for, The Amazing Maasai Ultra has been established with the aim to empower young Maasai women through providing access to education and information.
