Your Home Away from Home:
The race accommodation will be based out of eco-friendly Ol Gaboli Lodge, which is located just by the Ewaso Nyiro river in the Laikipia district near Mt Kenya. The bandas or lodges, are made of local stone with traditional thatched roofs. There are five smaller bandas, which can accommodate 5-6 people, and one larger banda that can sleep up to 8 people.
The bandas consist of family-style bunk beds. In deciding sleeping arrangements, consideration will be made for women's, men's, and family- bandas when possible. All bandas have their own en-suite toilet and bathroom, complete with a hot shower.
The land that the accommodation sits on is community-owned and locally-managed, and has been set aside for conservation purposes. Preserving the bio-diversity is an important part of life here, and what we bring in, we will take out with us when we leave.
In this region of
Kenya, running water and electricity are not common.
Water is scarce in general and local people often source their
water from underground sand rivers which they carry great distances
to their home. With this in mind, this lodge is simple but
comfortable. The lodge itself is on a river so access to water for
bathing is available and plentiful.
Furthermore, the chill-out dining area and lounge overlooking the river provides the perfect spot for a relaxing post-race sundowner!
