The 13-year old foster daughter. When she was just eight years old she ran away from home to avoid being married off by her family. Shortly after, Francis and Jackie took her in as their own - and they're now funding her education. She hopes to finish her primary and secondary education, then one day go to university, get a job where she can make her own money, and help the family that has helped her.
The Future:
Secondary school graduates will have the necessary qualifications, resources and confidence to move to a town, get a job, and earn money for their families - opportunities that are not available to most Maasai girls. They'll also have a choice as to when & who they marry, and the number of children they bear. Without this education, the girls would have been married as young teenagers, had many children.
The Cost of
Secondary School:
To attend high-school/secondary school in Kenya, it costs US$400 per year, including room and board. Four years of secondary schooling, and the freedom this education brings, costs a total of US$1600 per student:
The Amazing Maasai Ultra will be held to raise money to sponsor more girls through school.
